Eating disorders
OSFED
OSFED stands for Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder. It describes eating difficulties that are clearly an eating disorder but do not fit neatly within the diagnostic criteria for anorexia, bulimia or binge eating disorder. It is common, can be every bit as serious, and does not mean that you are “not unwell enough” for treatment. Eating disorders rarely read the textbook.
OSFED might look like all the features of anorexia at a weight considered normal, or binge eating and compensatory behaviours that occur less frequently than a diagnostic threshold requires, or restriction and rules that dominate daily life without matching any single category cleanly.
The word “other” in the name is unhelpful. It suggests something lesser or partial. In practice, distress, medical risk and impact on life are comparable to the more widely recognised diagnoses, and the treatment is the same specialist work.
A diagnosis is a description, not a permission slip. You do not have to qualify for one to deserve help.
What treatment involves

Because OSFED varies so widely, treatment is built around your particular picture rather than a category. We map how the difficulty actually works for you: the rules, the fears, the behaviours, the moments it intensifies and what it does for you.
From there the work follows the same evidence-based principles used across eating disorder treatment: establishing regular eating, addressing the thinking that maintains the problem, and gradually widening what feels possible.
